A House That Is Not Our Home
The sun outside warmed the town of Salem, bringing in a fresh new beginning, almost as if it was the start of something new. Oddly enough, today was the day Marlena would arrive back home, after being absent for months from her family and friends. She was seen last at the Memorial Day family gathering, her first appearance since her memory returned, her first appearance with her husband in months. Shortly after, it was announced that Marlena would be heading out of town, at first with her husband and then the remainder of the trip, without him. Of course there was shock, and then curiosity, and finally hopes and prayers that all was ok. However no one missed her presence more then her husband himself, counting every second that passed till she returned to his arms once again.
John hung up his cell as he glanced at his watch, counting the minutes till she walked through the front door. Her plane had just touched down and a car was waiting to bring her home. When John had spoken with her earlier, he had insisted that he would pick her up but she refused, telling him she would be fine. After many hours of debating she finally had agreed for him to send his jet and car, leaving a very happy husband in return. But from the minute he had hung up….he knew something was wrong. She wasn’t herself, but he brushed it off assuming she had been through an ordeal and to simply give her some time until she arrived back home so they can talk. John grabbed the paper and glanced at it before tossing it on the desk and clapping his hands together, wondering what to do till she gets home. Giving up on the idea of waiting patiently, he decided to keep himself busy and to go fix something for her to eat when she gets in. Glancing at his watch again quickly, he takes a deep breath and runs for the kitchen.
Meanwhile, a long slender leg steps into the awaiting car as the driver slowly releases her hand from his grip. “Welcome home Mrs. Black….Its good to have you here again.” She looks up at him and smiles, thanking him before removing her slender black Gucci sunglasses and placing them on top of her neatly fluffed and layered hair.
“Thank you Mark….its good to be home.” With that she turns her head as Mark closes the car door and runs to the driver side. Slowly the black Mercedes pulls away as Marlena glances out the window at the surroundings. She begins to wonder how much could possibly change in the couple months she has been gone, before taking a deep breath and closing her eyes. Most of all…she had some really important news to share with John….news that could not wait a moment later. Her eyes traveled to the brand new Marquis cut Diamond ring on her fourth finger of her left hand. Her mind traveled back to the memory of when she received this….right before she left on her trip.
“Hey Hey Hey...Where do you think you are running off to so quickly?” John smiled as he grabbed her by her waist and pulled her body to him, kissing the back of her head. She laughed as she placed her black designer bag down and reached for his hands that were intertwined on her stomach. She slightly turned her head to the side, trying to catch a glimpse of her husbands face.
“We’re going to be late…come on…why am I the one rushing you out of the house….its always the opposite.” She laughed as John kissed the side of her face, before turning her around to face him.
“I know but I am in no hurry to rush off, especially at a special moment like this.” He smiled as Marlena gave him a suspicious look.
“A special moment? What do you mean…you lost me? What’s going on?” She smiled softly as she asked while tilting her head to the side to make eye contact. He smiled beautifully while tilting his head a little more and grabbing her mouth with his in a sweet kiss before back up and looking at her, her eyes still closed, and her body still dealing with the sensations he just sent through her. When she finally open them, hazel mixed with blue, creating a deep fire within their souls…the passion, the lust, the desire still burning massively, both trying to fight the temptation for one another. Both agreed that Making Love would only confuse things at this moment and even though it would be tough…they decided to hold of until the moment was right. Now was no different and Marlena swallowed hard as she took a deep breath and stepped back, allowing some space in between them…space to cool off this rush of heat. “So, are you planning on telling me?”
“I am…but before I do I need you to grab my cell phone right behind you on the table.” He smiled as he pointed right behind her at the corner of the table. She gave him a look as if silently telling him ‘is it necessary’ before turning and grabbing the cell. As she turned back she jumped up slightly as she came face to face with a small velvet box.
“What’s this?” She smiled as John told her to open it. She slowly took the box from his hands and opened the lid gently, revealing a platinum 4ct Marquis diamond. Her mouth dropped open as tears immediately blinded her eyes, her emotions going in overdrive and getting the best of her. Her hands slightly shook as she tried to find her voice and speak her question. “Oh honey, what is this for?”
“For you…you deserve something so beautiful, so unique, so expensive. I came to realize that I never gave you your ring back when you came back to me…and then shortly after you had gotten amnesia and didn’t want anything to do with me. Now that I have you back, I want to give you this…something new, something precious...just like you are to me. I still have the other one if you choose to wear that…but I thought I might update it. I want you to marry me again Marlena…be my wife…continue to share your life with me. Will you acccept this baby? Be mine until the end of time?” With no words and tears in her eyes, she nodded and threw her arms around his neck, pulling his mouth to hers in a deep kiss.
“Oh yes…I will always share my life with you…And I am yours…till the end of time.” She smiled before feeling John’s fingers slip on her new ring and laying a gentle kiss on her hand.
And now that time seemed so far away…a time where she wasn’t so confused. She watched as it sparkled in the dim light that shone through the tinted glass, such a beautiful ring, a diamond that a woman would kill for….and here she has it…not even treasuring it like she should. She dropped her hand in her lap and closed her eyes for a moment, thinking about what to do or how to deal with what she felt. She felt a tear slide down her face and quickly swiped at it before realizing the car had come to a stop. She composed herself and placed her sunglasses back over her eyes, before opening the car door and slowly stepping out into the bright sun. She glanced up the building and stared at her floor…before adjusting her form fitting white button down blouse and adjusting her purse on her shoulder. Mark quickly joined her side as she smiled at him.
“I got it Mark….You don’t have to carry this upstairs.”
“No I insist Mrs. Black…please.” Mark smiled as she shook her head and softly smiled.
“I honestly have it…please…it’s a simple bag and a luggage…it has wheels….plus the doormen are inside in case I can’t do it. Thank you though Mark…I really appreciate it.” Marlena smiled as she placed a $100 dollar bill in his hand and grabbed her bags.
“Thank you Mrs. Black.” He smiled as she turned around and smiled back.
“You deserve it….see you around.” And with that, she disappeared into the building and made her way to the elevators. As she hit the button, she waited patiently preparing herself for what was about to come. She had no choice…she had to tell John how she felt…he deserved that much. The ding from the elevator sounded as the doors opened, waiting for her to enter. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, hitting the button to her floor and watched as the elevator doors closed.
