Marlena and Roman are driving in the car on their way from the airport to the penthouse after being reunited with the people they love most in the world. Marlena sits in the back seat peering into the front seat at her husband and his ‘fiancé‘. She notices the stolen glances that John and Kate are giving each other. With a look that is a mixture of disgust and sadness she turns to look out the window. Roman looks at the sadness on her face and tries to discern what is wrong.
After a moment he finally speaks. “Doc… what’s wrong?” She abruptly turns to him with a look of mild shock on her face. “Roman I do believe that is the stupidest question you have ever asked me!” He sits there dumbfounded with is mouth agape at what she just said to him. After a moment she continues with a angry but quiet tone. “A better question to ask Roman is what is right? There isn’t ANYTHING about this situation that is RIGHT!” she says with a slightly raised voice. Roman glances into the front seat to see if John and Kate noticed Marlena’s little out burst. After a moment he leans closer and continues, “Marlena, lower your voice. Doc… we’re home! What is there to be upset about?” She looked at him with disbelief clouding her face. “You mean other than the fact that my husband and your wife are engaged to each other”, she spit out through gritted teeth. He sits back and lets out a chuckle. “I don’t see anything funny about this situation Roman!” “Come on Marlena… you don’t honestly believe that they’re going to want to stay with each other now do you?” She looked at him with confusion, “Why wouldn’t they want to stay together? It is quite obvious that they love each other!” she says in disgust. Roman sits back with a smile on his face. “Well Roman I can see by that smug little smile on your face that you don’t think so. You tell me… what does it look like to you!” “Fine Doc… you want to know what I see?” he leans closer “ I see two people who were lonely… and they turned to each other for comfort. That is what I see.” Marlena shakes her head in disbelief and looks back out the window. “Come on Marlena… John has never been one to go without a woman for very long.” Marlena’s head snapped toward Roman. Her teeth gritted and her eyes blazing fire. “Go to hell Roman. You’ve got room to talk. Your wife is hardly the Virgin Mary.” “What is that supposed to mean?” Roman said snidely. “Just what it sounded like” Marlena spat. “I mean face it Roman, John hardly went chasing after Kate. He was paralyzed for crying out loud. It sure as hell didn’t take Kate long to jump in and play nurse maid did it?”
Roman went to make a snide remark but John spoke before he got the chance. “Doc… honey how are you feeling?” Marlena looked at him with love in her eyes, “I’m fine honey”. John glanced back at her with a smile that stretched from ear to ear, “Fine? That’s it just fine? Sweetheart your home, after months of being put through hell you are FINALLY home! I for one am ecstatic!” Things were quiet for a moment, then John spoke “I bet you can’t wait to get home to the penthouse huh Doc? Things just haven’t been the same without you!” “I’ll bet!“ Marlena whispered quietly to herself that same look of sadness on her face. “What’s that Doc?” “I said I can’t wait, sweetheart…I cant wait.” Marlena sat back and continued the ride home in silence. Marlena’s mind was plagued with thoughts of returning home, the home she shared with John as husband and wife. She was filled with joy at the thought of being home with her husband and children again. She was also filled with fear thinking that her place in their lives might not be what it once was. As the car pulled up to the building where her home was her heart started to race. She raised her hand to the car window, glancing at the home that she never thought she would see again. With fear in her heart and tears in her eyes she took a deep breath and opened the car door. ‘This is it’ she thought to herself ‘this is where I start to reclaim my life. The life that was stolen from me!’ John came around to help her out of the car. She grabbed his hand as he pulled her up to stand at his side. She stared up at him and with a trembling hand reached up to caress his cheek, “I’ve missed you” she stated firmly through her tears. His strong hand reached down to gently wipe away her tears. “I’ve missed you too. Welcome home… my pretty lady!” With hands entwined and Roman and Kate following behind they headed for their penthouse, which could turn out to be a war zone more than a home!
