As John opened the door to the penthouse Marlena’s heart caught in her throat. A million thoughts were going through her mind. ‘Is it the same as I remembered it? Are our happy family photos still scattered about the house?’ Marlena finally snapped out of her thoughts when John spoke, “Marlena… are you going to come in?” he said with a bit of a chuckle. When she walked in the door her tears began to fall. It was the same. Everything was just how she remembered it, well almost everything. As she walked through her home she touched every nook and cranny. Her eyes roamed over every piece of furniture and every picture, finally coming to rest on their wedding picture. Letting out a happy tear filled sigh she picked the picture up and gazed at their happy faces. John walked up behind her and rested his chin on her shoulder as she gazed at the picture, “Happy days hmm?” Marlena nodded her head, “The happiest day of my life!” she stated firmly. She then picked up the picture of her, John, Belle, Brady and Sami. “Oh… my sweet babies” she cried happily, “I can’t wait to see them”. “They are going to be on cloud nine Doc. They have been a mess since they thought you died. We all have” he sai slightly hanging his head.
Marlena turned in his arms and lifted his chin. She gave him that dazzling smile that was reserved just for him as she spoke to him, “I want to see my babies now John. Lets call them!” John shifted awkwardly turning back to look at Kate then back to Marlena. Marlena noticed John hesitance and spoke to him with fear in her voice, “John what is it? What’s wrong?”. John didn’t want to upset Marlena on her first night home, so he tried to reassure her, “Sweetheart nothing is wrong. It’s just… it’ s been a long day and I’m sure your tired. Why don’t you just rest tonight, and we’ll call them first thing in the morning?” John sounded less than convincing and he hoped that Marlena didn’t pick up on it. Worried and a little bit upset Marlena just stood there starring at John with her hands placed firmly on her hips. “Wh…what?” John asked her nervously. “I can’t believe that you are going to stand there and lie right to my face. Don’t you know by now that you can't lie to me?” “Doc… I’m not lying…” Marlena was starting to get irritated, “John don’t even try it! I can tell that you are trying to hide something from me. I saw that look that you gave Kate! If something is wrong with my babies I want to know what it is right now!”
After a moment John decided to tell her everything. He took Marlena’s hand, “We better sit down this might take a while…” Roman started to feel a bit uncomfortable when he finally spoke.. “Listen Kate and I are going to go… you two need some time alone.” “Roman wait, this involves all of us. Please you and Kate come sit down.” Feeling nervous John just jumped right into the explanation. John told Marlena and Roman everything. About Belle marring Philip, about Sami supposedly sleeping with Brandon inevitable ruining her wedding to Lucas, which made Kate noticeably flinch and about Brady running off with the other boys to rescue Philip who has been taken hostage. Marlena suddenly felt dizzy after all of the information that had been thrown her way. She stood up and paced back and forth, with her hands on her head “This is INSANE… absolutely insane!” John felt horrible about overwhelming her on her first night home. He walked up to her and took her in a fierce hug, “I’m sorry honey” he said as he rubbed his hands in comforting circles on her back trying to calm her down. “It’s not your fault John” She looked up and caressed his face “I made you tell me. By the way I’m sorry I snapped at you before. Its… it’s just that I am a little unsettled that’s all. Do you forgive me?” she said with a sweet smile on her face and tears in her eyes. “Nothing to forgive! Please don’t worry I will do everything in my power to find Sami and Brady. Isn’t that right Roman?” “Absolutely, you have nothing to worry about Doc!” Marlena sits on the couch with John thinking about everything that he told her, as he sits by her side holding her hand while she processes her thoughts. “John things are such a mess. Sami’s life is in turmoil, and she has disappeared. Our baby girl walked away from the love of her life, to marry someone she doesn’t love. Now her husband is being held hostage in the middle of a war. And the icing on the cake, our son has run off trying to save Philip. Could things possible get any worse?” Kate hears all of this and is fuming. Roman notices this and walk over to Kate, “Katie what’s wrong?” he says lovingly. “What isn’t wrong Roman? I mean don’t get me wrong I am beyond thrilled that you are back it’s just that… everything else is in turmoil. Three of my sons are in grave danger. And Marlena is sitting there whining about her daughters broken hearts. Broken hearts can be mended Roman… dead bodies can’t!”
