A few hours had passed since John left Marlena at Salem Place. John was sitting on the docks thinking of the mission that laid ahead of him. His heart broke into a million pieces as he thought of the pain that he was going to cause the love of his life…but there was no other way. He had to do this…for his family but especially for his Doc! John took the needle out of his pocket and stared at it for a moment, “This is the last time I am EVER going to do this…I swear it!” He took a deep breath and jammed the needle into his leg without caring.
John didn’t come to the dock intending to buy drugs. He was just sitting there thinking back at the conversation he had with Marlena earlier when he heard footsteps on the pier. He had a knee jerk reaction and went and hid behind some crates, where he usually hid when he was down there on the docks shooting up. While he was hiding there he saw her. She came and stood at the railing to look over the water. This was their special place and there he was hiding from her. She was talking to herself… or maybe to God… John wasn’t sure and he really didn’t care. He just got lost in her voice and the words that she spoke. She was blaming herself for pushing John about their relationship. She was crying “Oh John…maybe you aren’t in love with me anymore. I don’t want to lose you. This is all my fault…if I would have fought harder to escape from that castle…maybe I would have gotten home to you sooner. And you and Kate…well maybe you never would have…fallen in love with her!” She kept talking for a while, then after her tears subsided she wiped her eyes and walked away. Then John emerged from his hiding place with a tear soaked face. The pain of seeing her blaming herself was unbearable to him…just as unbearable as Marlena thinking that he didn’t love her anymore. That was when he bought the drugs.
John was brought out of his drug induced memory by another set of footsteps approaching him…however this time he was too out of it to hide. He sat there in a darkened corner of the pier, where he wasn’t really all that visible to anyone. He saw the woman with long blonde hair walk over to the bench and sit down. She was crying and it tore at his heart. He couldn’t see her face, but he knew who it was. That was his little girl…if only in his heart. Sami sat there on the bench talking and crying to herself as her mother had done only an hour earlier. Sami kept wiping the continuous stream of tear that were flowing down her reddened cheeks as she spoke to herself, “Life is so unfair…why am I always the villain. I can’t believe that… mom and dad…would believe…that bitch…over their own…daughter! And dad…he actually wants me…to show her respect…just because…she is his…WIFE! THAT…will be a cold day in hell!” Sami stood from the bench and walked to the railing looking out over the water, “And mom…tearing into me about John.” John heard his name mentioned and strained to hear what Sami was saying, “Mom was acting like…like it was MY fault that her and John are having problems. God…” Sami hung her head, “I am really tired of being blamed for EVERYTHING! It’s not my fault that John and Kate got “involved” with each other. Okay…so maybe I shouldn’t have made that rude comment to John…” Sami sat there thinking for a moment, “Oh man…I really hurt mom when I said that! I have never seen her like that. She was so mad at me…madder than I have ever seen her. If I want to get back on her good side I better watch what I say from now on, especially when it comes to John.” Suddenly Sami gets a panicked expression on her face, “Oh man…I better do what ever I can to make sure…that NO ONE finds out what I did these past couple months…especially mom. If she finds out what I did to John…” John sneaks up behind Sami and startles her, “What did you do to John?” Sami lets out a scream and speak slightly out of breath, “FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Damn John…you should wear a bell around your neck!” John walks toward the railing, “Nah…that would take all the fun out of it.” Sami studies John for a minute. She notices that he is sort of stumbling and his speech is kind of slurred. Sami smirks, “John you don’t look so hot. Still got that nasty ‘flu’?” John give a little snort and turns to face Sami, “You would know!” Sami stares at him, “What the hell is THAT supposed to mean, ‘I would know’?” John takes a step toward her, “Just what is sounded like Samantha. You know first hand…how sick I have been!” Sami looks at him with slight trepidation on her face but she does her best to mask it, “John…I think that ‘cold medicine’ that you have been taking is starting to give you brain damage. You aren’t making any sense.” John blows off her comment and keeps talking, “So what kind of mess have you gotten yourself into now…” Sami turns away from him, “I’m not in a mess thank you very much.” John let out a small laugh, “So you are down here on the pier crying for no reason?” Sami turns to walk away from him, but John grabs her arm gently but with enough force to hold her in place, “What happen Sami… did mommy and daddy find out that you have been a bad girl while they were gone?” Sami jerked her arm away, “I don’t know what the hell you are talking about.” John laughed, “Well then…you really are a clueless wonder.” John looked Sami square in the eye, “I heard you say that you upset you mother. What did you do to her THIS time?” Sami looked at him with an attitude, “I didn’t DO anything…she was just upset with me about the comment I made to you at Salem Place.” John started to laugh and this shocked Sami, “I’m sorry I must have missed the joke. What is so funny.” Sami stared at John as he got his laughing under control,” Ha Ha…that rude comment…is the LEAST of your problems. I think you should be more worried about your mother finding out about the little…‘hobby’ you picked up while she was gone.” Sami stood there in utter confusion, “What ‘hobby’ might that be?” John looked at her with a mixture of amusement and anger flashing in his eyes, “Well Sami…how do you think your mother and father are going to feel when they hear that you have taken up…cross dressing! Oh…it will break their heart!” Sami’s air caught in her throat. She shook her head about to speak but John cut her off in anger, “Can you imagine the looks on their faces when they find out that their loving sweet Sami girl…is none other than the cold…heartless…BASTARD… STAN!”
