Well today was the day that Marlena had been waiting weeks for…John was finally coming home today. Marlena had talked to John everyday on the phone for the past week. He would keep her up to date on his treatment…and would often torture her with very salacious stories of what he had planned to do to her when he got home. She had loved every conversation that they have had over the pass week…but nothing can compare to seeing his sky blue eyes and the feel of his masculine arms around her. She prayed everyday for his speedy recovery, so that he could come home to her. This separation from John made her realize how much a part of her he really is. He is the one that makes her life worth living, he is the reason her eyes light up, and he is the reason her heart sings with happiness. And today…when she finally had him back in her arms…she made a vow to NEVER let him go again!
Marlena was running around the house getting ready for John to come home. She was cleaning like a mad woman while Belle sat on the sofa laughing, “Mom…you are running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off.” Marlena giggled, “ I can’t help it Belle…I want everything to be perfect for when Sami brings your daddy home.” Belle laughed again, “Mom I don’t think that dad will care that he can see his reflection in the coffee table that you polished for like twenty minutes. We are talking about a man who leaves his underwear lying around the house.” Marlena laughed and continued cleaning. Finally Belle got off the sofa and grabbed her mothers hand…and lead her to sit down. She sat Marlena down then occupied the cushion next to her. “Mom…you need to relax! Believe me when I tell you that dad wont care if there are water spots on the silver or dishes in the sink. A tornado could pass through here and it wouldn’t phase him…as long as you are here…waiting for him…he will be happy as a lark!” Marlena leaned back against the sofa cushion and sighed, “Oh Belle. I have missed your daddy so much…I don’t ever want to be separated from him again.” Tears began to form in Marlena’s eyes. Belle smiled at the love emanating from her mother. “It is amazing.” she whispered slightly. Marlena looked at her questioningly, “What is amazing sweetheart?” Belle sighed and walked over to the piano. She glanced at the array of family photos. “The love that you and dad share…it is just…amazing! You two have been together for so many years…and you have been in love with each other even longer than that. Couples now a days don’ t seem to last twenty minutes…and here you and dad have been in love for almost twenty YEARS! “ Belle turned to her mother, “How do you do it?” Marlena walked over to her daughter and took her face gently in her hands, “Oh sweetheart…I have NO idea!” They both began to laugh. Marlena lead her back to the sofa while talking, “Sweetheart there is no…rule book for love. Every person…every couple is different. But I know that for me and your daddy…our love was just…destined! We are the missing pieces to each others hearts. We aren’t complete without each other. Simply put we are…” “Soul mates!” Belle chimed in finishing her mothers sentence and Marlena just nodded in reply. Belle’s mind drifted to her husband and to Shawn…her first love. She realized that she was in much the same predicament her mother was in many years ago. “Mom…how do you know when you have found your… soul mate? I mean when did you realize that dad was your soul mate? Form what I have heard of your history…when you first meet him you couldn’t stand him…and then he kidnapped you and took you to West Virginia…I mean how did your love grow out of THAT?” Marlena couldn’t help but to laugh at the memories that Belle had brought up. “Oh…my goodness…I had almost forgot how ANOYING your father was when I first meet him. Always making me sign those dreadful “Sign In - Sign Out” sheets at the hospital. But even though I tried to deny it at first…I think I knew from the first moment that I laid eyes on him… I new that I was going to spend the rest of my life with him.” Marlena turned to Belle with a slight smile, “Sweetheart…I know that you are torn in two concerning your feelings for Philip and Shawn… do you want to know how ‘I’ know that your daddy is my soul mate?” Belle nodded her head and listen to her mother intently. “I know because…he is in my first thought every morning and my last though every night. I know because…every time the phone rings I hope it is him…just so I can hear his voice. I know because…I ache to see his beautiful face…even when he’s only been out of my site for no more than a minute. I know because…when I picture my future…every single solitary minute of it is going to be spent loving your father.” Marlena takes a deep breathe and wipes the tears that had begun to form. “What I am trying to say is that…it is the little things Belle. The little things let you know…the little things in life have the greatest meaning. If you think of the little things that I talked about…and you can see which man occupies those thoughts…then you will know whom you are meant to share your life with! You have to be true to your heart Belle…otherwise everyone loses.” Belle wiped her eyes and smiled at her mother, “Well you have certainly given me a lot to think about….I guess I have a lot of soul searching to do!”
A few hours later Marlena came bouncing down the stairs looking at her watch, “Belle has Sami called? Her and John should have been here by now.” Belle shook her head no, “Don’t worry mom…maybe they are stuck in traffic.” Marlena turned to make her way to the kitchen, but stopped in her tracks with the sound of keys in the front door. Her heart leap in her chest at the thought of seeing John. She walked to the front door and flung it open…she was greeted with a somber looking Sami. Sami walked in…all alone. Marlena watched her enter…and noticed that someone very important was missing. She poked her head out into the hallway thinking that John was trying to surprise her…but he was no where in site. Marlena stepped back into the penthouse leaving the door wide open. She turned to Sami who was starring at her. “Sami…where is John?” Sami shrugged her shoulders and raised her hands in the air, “ I have no idea! When I got to the hospital…he was already gone.” Marlena gasped, “Gone? Gone where?” Sami shrugged yet again, “Your guess is as good as mine. I asked the nurse and she was just as confused as I was. She said that John had been released earlier this morning…and he told her that I was coming to pick him up.” Marlena raised her forefinger to her lips to keep the sobs at bay. Sami and Belle walked up to their mother and Sami stroked her arm. “Mom I am sorry…I have no idea where John is.” Marlena shook her head and began to cry, “NO…NO! He wouldn’t do this to me. He swore… he promised me that he was coming home. He wouldn’t do that to me…he wouldn’t…lie to me!” “THAT’S A FACT!” It took a moment for the deep masculine voice to register in Marlena’s head…but once it did she knew who it was. Marlena whipped around and saw the most beautiful site standing before her. John was standing in the doorway…with a bouquet of purple lilacs in his hands. Marlena felt like her feet were cemented to the floor…she just starred at him tears pouring down her cheeks…afraid to blink thinking that he might disappear. John approached her slowly…his arm outstretched handing her the flowers. “These are for you…pretty lady.” Marlena took them with no emotion on her face…still afraid that this was just her imagination. John was feeling the same way…but he couldn’t go without touching her for one more minute. He walked up to her slowly and stopped mere inches from her face…his eyes never leaving hers. He bent over slowly and wrapped his arms around her behind hoisting her up into the air. He stood there looking up at her with a smile beaming on his face, “I love you Doc!” The reality finally set in and Marlena was at a lose to control her emotions. Tears ran from her eyes like water from a faucet. She took a deep ragged breath as she looked down into John’s eyes. She stroked his face with both hands…she ran them around to the back of his head…pulling it to her chest…hugging him to her. She laid her head atop of his and cried, “Your home…your really home.” John smiled and hugged her with all his might, “ I am home Doc…I am not going anywhere!” He spun her around while he held her crying form in his arms. When he came to a stop he finally let Marlena slip down the length of his body…bringing her to stand in front of him. She ran her hand over his face…hazel still locked on blue. “Oh…JB…I love you so…never NEVER leave!” John smiled and caressed her cheek, as he whispered, ”Never Doc….NEEEVEERRR!” He bent down and gently swiped his lips across hers but before he could pull away Marlena pulled him into a passionate kiss. Both of them were so lost in each other that they failed to notice that their daughters had left. Both Sami and Belle knew that the one thing their parents needed right now was time alone…They knew that in this moment…the only thing that John and Marlena needed…was each other!
