Today was the day! The day that Marlena has been dreading since John came home from the rehab center. John and Marlena haven’t spoken so much as two words to each other…though not by John’s choice. John has tried endlessly to engage her in conversation just to have his words fall on deaf ears. Marlena was struggling to every minute of everyday to hold to her hostility and anger with John. She wanted nothing more that to hold him and love him with everything that she had in her…but she refused. She made herself believe that if she stayed angry long enough that John would not go on this mission to rescue the boys from their impending danger.
All of John and Marlena’s family and friends were gathered at the pub for a family dinner before John, Bo and Roman left to go and rescue the boys. John and Roman had a last minute meeting and were to be arriving shortly. Marlena sat in a corner booth thinking about John and the worst possible scenarios that could come out of this mission. Marlena gently wiped the tears from her eyes as Sami sat down across from her. “Mom…are you okay?” Marlena looked up at Sami dryly , “I am just peachy. The man I love is going over seas to meet his impending DEATH!” Sami sighed, “Mom come on now…what did you expect him to do? You know John better than anyone. You know that he can’t just sit by while one of his children are in danger. What do you want him to do…just sit here and twiddle his thumbs while your son is over there fighting for his life?” Marlena’s head snapped up, “NO…I don’t expect that! But why does he have to be the one that has to go? Why can’t the ISA or the military handle this?” Marlena shook her head thinking about the situation. Sami contemplated her mother quietly for a moment, “I know that look on your face. Mom what are you thinking?” Marlena took a deep breath, “Something isn’t right about this whole situation. John is keeping something from me…he is being so…pigheaded about this whole thing. It makes me think that there is something else driving him…something besides rescuing our son and the other boys.” Sami smothered a laugh, “With all do respect mom…how would you know if John is keeping something from you? You haven’t said two words to the man in DAYS!” Marlena glared at her and was about to respond when Hope sat down at the booth with them, “Hey there you two…how are you holding up?” Marlena huffed and Sami looked at Hope. “Mom is having a hard time…she is pissed because John wants to play hero.” Hope reached across the table and patted Marlena’s hand, “Marlena I can’t believe that it actually surprises you. John has always been the one to play the knight in shining armor.” Marlena’s head hung low, “I know that…god only knows how many times he has risked his life to save me from Stefano! But this is… different. At least with Stefano we knew what to expect most of the time. But this time…he is going into a WAR ZONE! I just have this …nagging feeling in me heart that SOMETHING is going to go wrong!” Hope did her best to reassure her, “Marlena, John is a trained professional…I am sure everything will be fine. He will rescue the boys and come home to all of us safe and sound. Besides…it isn’t like he is going with out any back up.” Marlena nodded, “That is true enough I guess. I just don’t get why John will trust the ISA to back him up…but he wont trust them enough to do this on their own. I guess it is comforting to him that Roman and Bo are going with him to watch his back.” Hope and Sami trade confused glances. Hope shakes her head, “Okay…you totally lost me there. Marlena…Bo isn’t going with John and Roman.” Marlena’s eyes glace up to Hope, “What do you mean…Bo isn’t going?” “Bo was never going over there Marlena. As a matter of fact…he left town yesterday on a police investigation.” Marlena eyes coat over with a fiery glaze as she glances back and forth between Sami and Hope. After a brief moment their attention got diverted by the loud audible gasp that came from over by the bar. They rose from their seat at the table as they observed Caroline who was grasping the bar to support herself. They rushed over to her and Marlena spoke first, “Caroline what is it…what’s wrong?” Caroline looked up at her with a shocked expression, “There has been an accident.” Marlena, Hope and Sami all trade glances and then look back to Caroline as she continued. “It‘s nothing life threatening but…it‘s Roman…he‘s been shot!” Sami’s knees wavered and Marlena braced her as she spoke, “Shot? How the hell did he get shot…him and John were supposed to be at a meeting?” Suddenly Marlena tensed and her heart constricted, “John…what about John…is he okay?” Caroline shook her head as she composed herself, “They didn’t say Marlena, all they said was that Roman was on his way to University Hospital.” Marlena grabbed Sami by the arm, “Come on sweetheart…lets go see what’s going on with your daddy.” Sami and Marlena retrieved their belongs and were out the door.
